Key learning points
- We can use times table facts to help solve division problems.
- Even numbers with a ones digit of 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8 are divisible by 2
- Numbers with a ones digit of 5 or 0 are divisible by 5; numbers with a ones digit of 0 are also divisible by 10
- When the dividend is equal to the divisor, the quotient will be equal to 1
- When the divisor is 1, the quotient will be equal to the dividend. When the dividend is 0, the quotient will be 0
Common misconception
Children may revert to inefficient strategies to solve problems e.g. skip counting.
Within the second learning cycle, children are encouraged to evaluate strategies used by others. The most efficient strategies should be discussed together throughout the first learning cycle to support with this.
